The Fox and the Grapes
On a hot afternoon a fox spotted a bunch of plump grapes hanging high on a vine.
He jumped, and jumped again, and jumped until his legs ached — but the grapes stayed just out of reach.
Finally he trotted off with his nose in the air. "They were probably sour anyway," he muttered.
Moral: It is easy to despise what you cannot have.
A famished Fox saw some clusters of ripe black grapes hanging from a trellised vine. She resorted to all her tricks to get at them, but wearied herself in vain, for she could not reach them. At last she turned away, hiding her disappointment and saying: "The Grapes are sour, and not ripe as I thought."
